No Bake Oreo Dessert

You don’t even have to turn your oven on for this delicious easy dessert! This one comes straight from my Mom’s cookbook:

A few notes before you start: For the crushed cookies – you can, of course, use a food processor or chopper for this step, but be careful not to over process the cookies. You do not want a powdery texture, but rather a “chunkier” one. You want to have some larger pieces to hold it all in place. I prefer to use a coffee mug. Yes, really. Using the bottom of a coffee mug, press down over the Oreos a small section at a time, until they are all crushed (leaving some larger pieces). It should look like this:

Now to the “room temp” cream cheese – who has time for that? Not me. 30% -40% power in microwave, one minute intervals until you get a smooth texture that can easily be mixed.

Lastly, you will notice the “original” family instructions say to refrigerate for one hour in between layers. I have always put the pan in the freezer while I make the next layer, and never had any issues. This is up for debate amongst family members, but for the sake of time I will always stick with the freezer method.

This dessert is going to cut nicer the next day, so I make it the night before. You can, by all means, eat it the day of but it may be more of a “bowl” dessert on day one.
